Fire Rated Door Vent to Install in a Fire Rated Door

You might think that installing a door vent in a fire rated door would ruin the fire rating, but that isn’t the case. You do need a special vent, however, to keep the fire rating of the door.

Door Vent

When you’re working with a fire-rated door, you will need a special fire rated door vent to install into it. If you use a regular vent or louver, then you’ll ruin the fire protection that the door has.

We sell National Guard Products Fusible Link vents that are fire rated and ready to install into your steel or wooden door. The fusible link is a special part that will automatically close the louvers when it heats up to 165 degrees F, which helps close off smoke coming in from the outside or keeps air from being pulled in to feed a fire inside.

This Fusible Link Vent is National Guard part #L-1900.

This vent is certified by UL to CAN/ULC-S104 and ANSI/UL10B, complies with NFPA 80 and NFPA 252 for application to hollow metal fire doors rated up to 3 hours and wood fire doors rated up to 90 minutes. And positive pressure certified by UL to ANSI/UL10C, complies with IBC, NFPA 80 and NFPA 252 for application to hollow metal fire doors rated up to 3 hours and wood fire doors rated up to 90 minutes.

The construction is 18 gauge cold rolled steel for the frame and the adjustable Z-blades. It has mitered corners for a clean look. It comes in a gray primer powder coat finish, but there are other colors that can be custom ordered for it. An optional insect screen is available, as well.

If you have any questions about this door vent, give us a call on our customer service line. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have.
